NYC Weave

Thats right ladies and gentleman. This weave comes straight from Grand Central Station. I am loving all this weave people are finding and sending my way. Please continue. My very best friend Lauren sent me this weave yesterday from New York. She told me the story too...and its a goodin. She said that she was walking through Grand Central and doing her thing when she spotted this weave and thought to herself Oh! Look random hair on the ground...and as she walked away she had an A! Ha! moment OMG randomweave. Now for those of you who have been to grand central that place is busy. She stopped turned around and stopped to take a picture. I am sure she was almost mowed down by the masses. But she survived and managed to get a pic of some good ol NYC weave. Thanks Lauren

Shared Weave

So Stephen calls me on saturday as I am driving through the mountains on my way to Capitola "Did you get the picture Angelo sent you?". "NO" I replied. But i went on about how I was in the mountains and how I was not getting the best service. So later that afternoon I go back to the Car from the beach where we were at (I was pretending to be the Little Mermaid) and there it was. Angelo had sent me a picture of some weave he found on the street. Things like that make me happy. Thanks for the share Stephen and Angelo!!!

You know I heart colored weave

Sorry for the lack of postings every week but i'm just not finding weave like i used too. That being said look at this gemmer I spotted yesterday. I heart colored weave because it just stands out like a beacon on weave hope. If this weave would have been dark in color it would have never caught my eye in all that dirt...but it's colored a bright redish orange. You know what I love about all these random weaves...is just that the randomness. It's like who expects to see hair weave in the side of the road. No one. But yet there everywhere. It reminds me of that episode of Sex and the City when Carrie meets Berger and he collects playing cards he finds in the city. Hoping one day to have a full deck. He says you never notice them but they are everywhere. I feel that way about weave. Although I don't collect weave that would just be gross.

Weave and a Bra

So this picture was submitted by my friend Rachel. Who informs me that this weave was tangled up with a bra. Genius. Do you wonder if the girl was in such a rush to get her bra off that she took out some weave in the process? It must have been one hot hook up. I bet she was homeless....but then again if she was homeless how could she afford weave...and therefore afford to lose it. I digress. Although it is hard to see I believe that there is bra in that there weave. Thanks Rachel for being the first randomweave reader to spot some fresh weave on the street. Bus Stop Weave

Greetings Weavewatchers! Sorry it has been so long since my last post. But I have been under a dry spell lately and have not spotted any weaves. But I had some luck yesterday. I left work early for a dentist appointment and I walked to the bus stop and there is was. WEAVE. It was the best thing ever. It was just lying there and it was getting windy so had I come any later I'm sure it would have blown away. Phew!!! I'm glad I caught so I can share with you oh and p.s. my teeth are sparklin! The Ultimate in Random Weaves

Yes ladies and Gentleman we are not really sure the hell she was thinking either. But Britney has done shaved off all her hair. She has gone crazy ya'll. But really as my friend Lauren has pointed out this morning she has provided us with the ultimate in hair weave. Yes that ratty mess she called hair is now for sale at www.buybritneyshair.com. Where for a million dollars you can own her hair, a 1/2 empty can on red bull she was drinking, her lighter, and the clippers she used. If you ask me that's a bargain. But really I don't have a million to spare right now. But you know she is also going to be wearing some tacky hair weaves now. A little weave

Not really sure how old this picture is. But look at that cute little weave. Word to all randomweave readers. My phone was damaged this past weekend so I lost a lot of pictures...so until I get some from you or I get my replacement phone. I won't be posting everyday. Happy President's day.

I'm Weak and an Interview

So I was walking back to my office after lunch this afternoon and there was this group of like 4 people in front of me. One of them noticed a weave on this pole. It was amazing. Just a strand of red hair weave and was just chillin on the side of this water pole. Well one of the girls grabbed a piece of paper picked it up and was talking about how they were going to play a joke on someone. Anyhow I was like I so want a picture but I didn't grow a pair in time to ask. AHHH!!! What a pussy. I should have been OMG I have this blog and this is what its about can I take a picture of that weave. OH Well.

Anyhow as promised earlier here is the transcript from Laurens interview with the "Extension Guru" Lauren was so kind to bold the important parts. Read it. It offers some keen weave advice. I totes agree with the smell part. All hair weave should smell fresh and clean. Too bad that is not always the case. Snaps to Lauren for her share. THANKS LAUREN


LM: What is the difference between glue-in and woven extensions, and what type do you do at the salon?
NR: I do a process called “Great Lengths”, which is heat-bonded extensions but it’s not glue, it’s a protein wax. And because our hair is made up of protein it’s better for the hair, because protein makes protein stronger. Glue is actually pretty rough on the hair, like you would imagine glue would be rough on anything. Sometimes it can pop your hair, so we don’t really like to use glue. But clip-ons, that is something you would do for one night, if you had a big affair for one night only. You can just clip them in and that’s fine, it doesn’t hurt your hair. And the woven ones, they’re good but they don’t really last as long as Great Lengths do. Great Lengths holds for about 4 to 6 months. The woven ones last for only about 3 to 4 weeks.
LM: Specifically for a wedding day, is there one you think is best for staying in the hair, not having to worry about it falling out on the aisle?
NR: For your wedding day, you can definitely do a clip in and not worry about it falling out if you just want length and don’t want the expense of Great Lengths, you can get a clip in one, and put it up or leave it down, make it curly. Or you can do Great Lengths and have it permanently in, and you then really don’t have to worry about anything.
LM: If you were going to use a clip in, would you recommend someone go to a professional to get that put into the hair, or can you do it on your own with good results?
NR: I would definitely recommend that they use the professional once, so they can show you how to do it correctly, but if you want to do it yourself, you are capable of doing that definitely.
LM: What kind of hair is used in the Great Lengths process? What should people be looking for in the hair to guarantee a natural look?
NR: You want to look for the grade of the hair, make sure that it’s silky and 100% human hair. And that’s it’s not mixed with polyester or anything, because that can always cause a problem with tangling. Feel the texture of the hair, whether it’s curly or straight, make sure it has a little shine to it, so you know, ‘cause it’s being processed and colored. Also look out for the smell of it. If the hair smells bad, it will have a funny smell, that’s bad. It should smell clean and fresh.
LM: You mentioned color. Do you typically dye extensions to make sure it matches the natural hair perfectly?
NR: Normally, you can pinpoint the hair color from the swatches, but you can also take it to a colorist and have them color it exactly to your hair if it’s slightly off but 9 times out of 10 you can get it perfect just by choosing from the swatch.
LM: Take me through the procedure.
NR: You come in for a consultation, and then come back in about 3 days later because we have to order the hair and everything. Then we will do the whole application from cutting the hair, to blow-drying it, and putting extensions in, and then cutting those to make sure they match. Then styling it etc. etc. that’s all done in one day. That process takes, depending on whether you’re getting a quarter head, half head or full head, it can take anywhere from two to five hours. Not too bad.
LM: Anyone who should avoid getting extensions?
NR: I would say anyone who’s hair is very thin and fragile, I wouldn’t recommend it because there is nothing for it to hold on too and it can pop the hair. And people with short hair—your hair needs to be at least 4 to 5 inches for the extensions to look good.
LM: What is the end result? Why is this is a good idea for brides?
NR: Sometimes you want that fuller look but can’t grow your hair out to or your hair may stop growing at your shoulder and you want it to the middle of your back. Also for volume, definitely gives you more fullness.
LM: When should you get extensions put in before the wedding day?
NR: I would do it about a week and half to two weeks before. So you can get used to them and live with them for awhile before the actual day.
LM: And how long do Great Lengths last?
NR: 4 to 6 months.
LM: And how do you get them out?
NR: You have to get them professionally removed. You can go to your stylist and there is a solution that breaks down the bonds. The only thing that breaks them down is sulfur. So when you have them in you want to stay away from any products containing sulfur. But when you get them out, we put on a sulfur solution and they slide right off.
LM: What price are you looking at?
NR: Cost depends on ¼, ½ or full head, can be $1,400 to $4,000. That’s pretty much the same across the country.

A weave in the Shade

OMG. So sorry for not posting yesterday. Got uber busy at work. Therefore there will be two today. I don't know how old this weave is. But here it is in the shade. It almost disguises the weave. Later today I will be posting an interview my friend Lauren who works for magazine did with a weavoligist. How exciting!!! Happy Friday

Wet Weave...DRY

So a couple of days ago I posted a picture of a wet weave that I saw on my walk back to work from my lunch break (the posting with the tribute to Anna Nicole). Anywho I was walking back the same way yesterday and there is was. Same spot, dry and bunched up. I just thought that was funny. Will someone ever clean this weave up. I walked that way again today and it was there still. Poor little unloved weave.

Weave or Rope?

Friday night I was walking to the Badlands with some friends (Kaveh, Patrick, Jaime) and we passed this. I believe it was weave. Jaime claims it was some type of rope. All I know is that 1) I was drunk and 2) I was sure not going to touch it. So we will really never know. Plus the picture quality does not help. If it is not weave I apologize for putting a picture of rope on here. What are your thoughts? Discuss.

Small Weave

I don't even know how I spot weaves sometimes. I mean sometimes you just can't miss them. But I never go out with the intention of finding any weave. But look at this little guy. What a small little weave. Will anywho I am glad I spotted it and now can share with all of my randomweaves readers.

Fresh Wet Weave and some sad news

It is a rainy day here in San Francisco. I went and met up with Kaveh and Rhianna for Sushi at this place a few blocks from my work. When we were done Rhianna offered us each a ride back to work. I opted to walk (even with the rain) because I had some time to kill and I had an umbrella. As I was walking back there it was like a beacon. FRESH WEAVE and wet thanks to the rain. I am glad I decided to walk or else this weave would have been missed. I was really excited cause I had not spotted some new weave in a while. Here it is to enjoy.


In other news: Today is a sad day in the weave world as we have lost an amazing weave wearer. Anna Nicole Smith passed away today. Smith while known for many things will always be remembered by those in the weave world for big hair and usage of weave. She will be remembered as a weave enthusiast who was never afraid to take risks. Even if her hair didn't look good

Night Weave

So after seeing Kathy Griffin at the Warfield on Market a group of friends and i were walking back the muni we spotted this weave (i know bad picture quality) and I kid you not for the entire block about every 5 to 10 feet there was more of the same weave. Whoever lost this weave was shedding all over the frickin city. I must have took about 5 pics before I was like ok...there was seriously too much going on. I ended up deleting them all except one. It was like weavesplosion 2006. I'm just glad I was able to catch it and share. P.S. be on the look out for weaves on the streets near you. email randomweaves@hotmail.com

Curbside weave

So this weave just randomly on a curb by my work. Really nothing weavtastic about it. Just another random weave. Hence this website. I really dont remember when it dates back too but its a good weave. (sorry no post yesterday I was sick)

A lighter shade of weave

The most common color when I have found weave on the street is darker shades like black and brown. It's always a special treat to discover some color. Remember from such earlier posts as a touch of color. Well here we have a blond weave. Oh what a treat it was to catch this out of the corner of my eye. And it's so little, like a baby weave. Enjoy.

A weave with a comb

You will have to click on the picture for the close up. But this weave actually has a comb in it. I wonder if the wearer of this weave was combing his/her hair and pulled this out. Either way they left the comb intact for all to enjoy. How thoughtful. I believe this weave was from summer of '06 next to the park where Kaveh and I would meet for lunch. I would also like to point out how in dire need of a pedicure I am in this photo. But it's not about me...it's all about the weave.

Wet Weave

This weave I found on my way back to work from lunch about a few months ago. Kaveh and I had met at the Potrero Center. And when I parted with him as soon as I crossed the street there was this gemmer of aweave. I mean that is alot of weave. But I love how it is all wet. Why is wet? Did someone have to was the weave out and forget to pick it up? Because as you can see thats the only thing that is wet.

Fresh Weave

So pretty much for the next few posts on here all the pics will be weaves from the past year cause I have a few of those already in supply. However I was just walking around on my lunch break and discovered a fresh weave so I had to share. YAY. I heart Fresh Weave.

A touch of Color

Ok so here is a weave I found up the street from my work. This one has a touch of color to it. Very special. And it sure is a whole lotta hair. You must wonder, becuase this clearly was not one strand just fell out...or pulled out. But it's like if you have taken that much weave out or you bought it or what have you...why didn't you throw it away. Well anyhow atleast I was able to capture for all to enjoy here.

Welcome

Ok, so this is the first entry into Randomweaves.blogspot.com. This is the brain child of Kaveh and me. It all started about two years ago when I saw this random hair weave on the muni. I had to take a picture with my camera phone. I sent to Kaveh. Then a month or so later when Kaveh was on vacation (I think in New York) He came across a random weave and took a picture of it and sent it to me. So now when either one of us sees a picture of weave on the ground (and trust there are weaves everywhere) we would send them back and forth. Then I think it was Kaveh who was like let's start a website www.Randomweaves.com. So here we are. It's still in the beginning phases. Eventually we are going to hire weaveoligists like Fauxnifa to analyze the pictures and see if the weave fell out, was cut out or pulled out. We also encourage you to submit any weave you may find to randomweaves@hotmail.com.
